The Birchanger Woods Trust
Due to the constant presence of dogs being walked in the wood, it is unlikely that you will see any mammals except the ubiquitous Muntjac deer Grey squirrels.
Muntjac deer enter the wood at night, as do foxes, but they withdraw to quieter parts by day. There will be the usual small rodents and rabbits, but no studies have as yet been done on them.

Hedgehogs can be found in the wood, and the trust have provided a number of “Hedgehog” hollowed out logs to encourage this declining species.  The logs were installed by local cub and school groups, in order to encourage the younger members of the community to engage with and respect their local environment.
