The Hazel stumps in the clearing, close to QR Post 7, have been coppiced.  The stumps called stools where the new shoots will appear have been protected from grazing by rabbit and deer.  The re-useable wood and wire protection baskets will be removed in a few years, once the new Hazel shoots have grown and become well established. We have with the assistance of St Elizabeth’s volunteers planted Oxslips in baskets in this area.
Many  examples of Hazels which were successfully coppice in 2008, can be seen on the path between Birchwood School and the A120, on the QR trail
