Scotts Pine
(Pinus sylvestris)
As the largest and longest-lived tree in the Caledonian Forest, the Scots pine is a keystone species (see Principles of Ecological restoration) in the ecosystem, forming the 'backbone' on which many other species depend.

There is only one Scotts pine in Birchanger woods, and it can be found adjacent to the path between Woodlands and the Water Tower entrance.   The Bark is quite distinctive, so see if you can find it!
