Birchanger Scouts get stuck into Community Woodland Project

A handful of Scouts, a little enthusiasm and the willingness to get stuck in were all that were needed for 2 mornings of fun for the 1st Birchanger Scouts when they teamed up with the Birchanger Wood Trust.

1st Birchanger Scouts have been making a real difference to their community by clearing debris and cutting down old trees in Birchanger Woods alongside The Birchanger Woods Trust who have welcomed the addition of the extra help with projects in the woods.

For this wood clearing, the Scouts soon got to grips with axes and bow saws and used plenty of elbow grease to clear an area of the woods and then prepared the ground for the planting of some new trees donated by The Tree Council.

The fire brigade also got involved by watering the new trees. During the day two newcomers to 1st Birchanger Scouts were invested during a short ceremony.
The Scouts were thrilled to learn that their work would earn them the Environment Partnership badge and their Community Challenge Badge and contribute to the Forester Activity Badge.
