Silver Birch
Betula pendula (silver birch) is a widespread European birch, though in southern Europe it is only found at higher altitudes. Its range extends into southwest Asia in the mountains of northern Turkey and the Caucasus.

The photograph above shows a stand of Silver  Birches in Birchanger Woods, and the photograph below shows a natural burr in a Silver Birch which usually contains water and provides a much need drinking spot of the local wildlife.
